General
Mizuno's series name JPX is mentioned by many golfers in the same breath with 'very forgiving' and 'for starters'. This is only half true as these JPX-923 Tour irons (and also the JPX-923 Pro) are much more suitable for the better golfers among us. For season 2023, Mizuno has introduced these advanced JPX-923 Tour irons, equipped with the new V-Chassic. These clubs have an obvious 'players profile' with the thinner top line and lots of 'feel' in ball contact, exactly what lower handicap golfers are looking for. The latest innovations make the impact of the ball feel much more solid.
The technique
These famous JPX-923 Tour irons do share some technology with the JPX 923 Hot Metal irons but certainly not everything. Partly because the Tour version is suitable for the (advanced) golfer, the basic construction is clearly very different. This is because the JPX-923 Tour is a forged iron where the 923 Hot Metals are cast. Forged steel feels softer and gives clear feedback on what is happening during ball contact. This Tour version does have a cavity behind the face (cavity back) for forgiveness, but it is much smaller than the Hot Metal versions. This makes the head feel like a 'Muscleback' (solid) but allows the ball flight to be more easily controlled by the golfer's technique and skills, something that appeals to better golfers.
The V-Chassis on which this JPX 923 Tour is built is more stable, dampens resonances and has more of a focus on that soft, comfortable-feeling ball contact. The improved New Core Tech Face (face) delivers maximum power but offers control at the same time. Ball flight is mid to mid-high and controllability is maximised.
Standard version
In the standard version, these JPX 923 Tour irons with steel shafts feature nice KBS S-Taper Lite Chrome Steel Shafts and pleasant GolfPride MCC +4 men's grips but deviating from the standard version is of course always possible.
